MDL Meadowstone in Coutts conversion on the Isle of Man

The project to transform the former Coutts Bank Off-Shore Headquarters in the Isle of Man into 16 lavish apartments is now nearing completion.  The conversion of the former banking headquarters is a unique and exclusive example of modern apartment living.  Coutts House incorporates a 12-metre swimming pool, sauna, spa and gym as well as a Concierge service and meeting room, all designed with luxury in mind.

An important part of the scheme has been the design and build of a new annexe to the existing building.  MDL Meadowstone, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of Cast Stone, has supplied a variety of bespoke stonework pieces to the project, which most notably included: Balustrading, two new Porticos, window surrounds, plinths, band course, quoins, copings and pier caps for the main building and the external works.

The significance of the work commissioned was vital to the overall finished look, feel and appeal of the project with the historical match, not only of the items against the original Coutts building, but also an exact colour match of the stone from the original building being of key importance.

New CPD Seminar is approved

A brand new seminar entitled “Cast Stone Innovations” has recently been approved by the Construction Industry CPD Certification Service.  This new seminar takes its lead from feedback received from previous delegates and now covers items relating to site storage,  Installation  and shows practical solutions to safe handling of cast stone.   The seminar also looks in more depth at the differences between Cast and Natural Stone and explores in detail the manufacturing methods of both Dry & Wet Cast stone.    In addition there is a fascinating section on mould making and how this affects the specification process.

The Meadowstone brand has been a market leader in cast stone for many years. Under new ownership MDL Meadowstone has joined the BPCF to ensure that it keeps abreast of leading edge industry developments.

As part of the membership agreement, MDL Meadowstone is delighted to report that it has signed up for the far reaching sustainability charter and the Concrete 2015 pledge which incorporates a stringent Health and Safety element.

The future looks bright for MDL Meadowstone

Following a far reaching business re-structure, the future looks bright for MDL Meadowstone. Director, Simon Tibble says… “although the house building market is still flat, we are seeing some improvement in sales.”

With a steady, sustainable increase in performance, the company has met its growth targets for the fourth quarter of 2009 and the first two months of 2010. The reasons for this are many. Simon goes on to say… “We are growing to be a major force in the self build and one off architect designed house building market whilst retaining the lion’s share of the volume market too.”

Managing Director Mark Johnson says “We have seen an increase in national house-builder stone purchases approaching 50% comparing the fourth quarter of 2008 with the same period of 2009.” This significant growth looks set to continue as blue-chip builders start to make inroads into the recession.

“Our focus going forward, is to maximise the sales potential of our new, improved semi-dry mix products and build on the experience gained with our wet-mix offering” Simon explains.

Finding success in the current economic climate is hard enough, but with significant sales from two national self building exhibitions under its belt, MDL Meadowstone is looking to a brighter future.

MDL Meadowstone features in high quality projects

MDL Meadowstone continues to supply some of the most prestigious building projects in the UK. This recent photograph of a newly completed private house in the outskirts of Royal Ascot, gives testament to the quality of the new generation of MDL Meadowstone semi-dry mix cast stone products.

The building has been constructed using traditional hand made red bricks with a clay tile roof. MDL Meadowstone complements Natural Stone

MDL Meadowstone was recently chosen as the best material to complement a prestigious new-build country house in Leicestershire.

A local natural iron stone walling product was used for walling on the main structure and MDL Meadowstone for the decorative dressings. With products manufactured to exceed rigorous British and International standards, MDL Meadowstone are now full members of the British PreCast Concrete Federation, which means that the Company’s designs can be confidently used in building projects where high performance cast stone is needed.

Another benefit of MDL Meadowstone’s semi-dry cast stone is that it often weathers more quickly than natural stone, acquiring a patina after only a couple of years outside. Consequently, it will soon blend in with existing stonework on traditional or classical buildings.
